MCom Curriculum Review and Official Launch of Admissions

The institute organized a curriculum review of the Masters in Commerce with specialisation in Accounting and Taxation on March 18, 2023. The MCom programme aims to empower future accounting professionals with advanced knowledge and skills in accounting, taxation, auditing, and digital transformation. Experts from the industry and academia participated to discuss the MCom curriculum considering the current trends and future prospects in the field of accounting and taxation. This was followed by official launch of MCom (Accounting and Taxation) Admissions which aims to provide master’s students with opportunities to gain practical experience through internships and industry projects. Students will have the opportunity to work with leading accounting and taxation firms, which will provide them with valuable insights into the industry and help them develop their skills and knowledge. The USP of the programme is its alignment with US-CPA, ACCA, ICMAI (India), ICAI (India), and CMA (UK) courses which provides opportunities to the students to pursue any of these programmes of their interest simultaneously. The program also has various mandatory certifications like IFRS, Accounting Simulation, Data Visualization, and Advanced Data Analytics with Excel as an embedded part of learning and assessment evaluation.

The seminar received representations of Principals, Heads of the Department, and senior faculty members from Sardar Patel University – Anand, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Anand Commerce College – Anand, National College of Commerce, Umiya College of Arts and Commerce, Gujarat Commerce College, Prin MC Shah Commerce College, R.C. College of Commerce, Chaudhari Commerce College – Gandhinagar, J G College of Commerce, S.L.U. Arts and H. & P. Thakore Commerce College for Women, Ahmedabad Arts and Commerce College, among others. The representations from industry were received from Rajasthan Patrika, Knowcraft Analytics, Pi Sqaure Investments, Awfficacy, etc. The expert discussion proved to be an excellent opportunity for educators, and industry professionals to recommend new courses and suggest revisions in the existing courses of the MCom program. They further shared their suggestions on how this programme can help shape the future of accounting professionals.

The experts suggested including content related to cloud accounting, fintech, ERP, and international software like MYOB, Sage 50, etc. They added that international taxation should be changed from a core course to an elective course, and Data Analytics should be made a compulsory course. They further suggested incorporating a course on entrepreneurship/startup and that reference should be made to NQSF.
