Nirma University’s Institute of Commerce celebrated its 9th Foundation Day with resounding enthusiasm on Monday, October 7th, 2024. From 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the NIM Auditorium became a vibrant hub, bringing together students, faculty, and esteemed guests for a full day of academic dialogue and cultural expression. The celebration echoed the university’s rich tradition of excellence, embodying its unwavering commitment to fostering both the intellectual and personal growth of its students. The presence of 300 spirited students added energy and dynamism to the day.
The festivities began as students arrived and quickly filled the NIM Auditorium, eager to participate in the day’s events. Anticipation soon gave way to joy as the celebration opened with a series of cultural performances, each showcasing the immense talent and creativity of the student body. The rhythmic beats of a vibrant Garba, led by Natraj – the Dance Club, kicked off the event, beautifully blending culture and tradition with synchronized grace. This was followed by Tarang – the Music Club, whose soulful performance of Gujarati and Hindi songs filled the auditorium with melody and emotion. The laughter and applause that greeted Rangshala – the Theatre Club’s comedic act brought light-hearted humor to the stage, connecting the audience through shared joy.
These cultural showcases, weaving together modern and traditional elements, not only highlighted the diverse talents of the students but also created a festive atmosphere that fostered a deep sense of unity and community throughout the day. Beyond mere entertainment, these performances reflected the university’s belief in holistic education, where artistic passions are nurtured alongside academic achievement.
As the cultural segment came to a close, all eyes turned to the arrival of the Chief Guest, Shri S. B. Singh, Executive Director of Indian Bank. His entrance was marked by a traditional welcome, highlighted by the lighting of ceremonial lamps, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the illumination of wisdom. This symbolic act set the tone for the event’s intellectual discourse.
Dr. Udai Lal Paliwal, Dean and Director of the Institute of Commerce, took the stage to formally welcome the assembly. His speech reflected on the institute’s impressive nine-year journey, celebrating milestones such as academic excellence, student achievements, and the success of its alumni. Dr. Paliwal shared a bold vision for the future, with ambitious plans for advancing research, strengthening industry partnerships, and expanding the institute’s global presence.
The keynote address by Shri S. B. Singh explored the “Indian Growth Story” – a topic deeply relevant to commerce students. Through an insightful analysis, Shri Singh outlined India’s evolving role as a global economic force, highlighting the country’s advancements in sectors such as technology, infrastructure, and services. He framed his speech within the context of “Amrit Kaal,” a 25-year window leading to India’s centenary of independence, which he described as a golden opportunity for India to secure its place among the world’s leading economies.
Shri Singh urged students to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship, and ethical business practices, encouraging them to take an active role in shaping India’s economic future. His speech, both inspirational and practical, left students motivated to pursue excellence, meet the challenges of a global economy, and become leaders in their fields.
Following the keynote, Dr. Anup K. Singh, Director General of Nirma University, delivered the Presidential Address. Reflecting on the university’s ongoing achievements, Dr. Singh praised the Institute of Commerce for creating an environment where academic rigor and extracurricular engagement flourish side by side. He reiterated the university’s commitment to quality education, research, and innovation, which he described as the cornerstones of its success. After a vote of thanks by Dr. C.S. Karishma Butani, expressing gratitude to the guests and dignitaries, the morning session concluded with the National Anthem. The afternoon session brought the spotlight back to academics with the inter-institute business plan competition, “Empowering India: An Innovative Challenge.” Students from various faculties presented creative solutions to real-world problems, focusing on sustainability, financial inclusion, and technological innovation. This competition not only showcased the students’ ingenuity and critical thinking but also demonstrated their understanding of India’s economic challenges and opportunities.
