RANGRAAS – The Garba Workshop at ICNU

The Institute of Commerce, Nirma University (ICNU) successfully organised RANGRAAS – The Garba Workshop on 19 September, a cultural initiative aimed at celebrating the spirit of Navratri while fostering community engagement and participation among students and faculty. The event provided a platform for participants to experience traditional dance as a medium of artistic expression, creativity, and cultural heritage.

The program commenced at 6:30 PM with a formal welcome for students, faculty, and distinguished guests, establishing an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and cultural fervour. The dress code was traditional attire. All participants eagerly anticipated the workshop, which highlighted Garba not only as a dance form but also as a medium of self-expression, devotion, and creativity.

The workshop was further enriched by the presence of Mr Nilesh Nainani, an eminent choreographer, anchor, and co-founder of the renowned event brand One More Thumka, celebrated for his expertise in wedding choreography and Garba performances across Gujarat. Through his guidance and professional acumen, Mr Nainani facilitated an interactive learning experience, enabling participants to acquire the fundamental steps of Garba with both elegance and enthusiasm.

A notable aspect of the workshop was the active participation of faculty members alongside students, reflecting the inclusive ethos and collaborative spirit of ICNU. This engagement enhanced the communal and celebratory ambience, as all attendees participated collectively in the Garba performance.

In recognition of exemplary participation and presentation, awards were conferred at the conclusion of the workshop. The Best Dressed accolades were awarded to Yash Dhanuka (male) and Vidhi and Akshita (female), while the Best Dancer titles were presented to Kaavya Gupta (male) and Khankak and Hetvi (female), acknowledging their skill, enthusiasm, and dedication.

The workshop concluded with a grand Garba celebration, marking an auspicious commencement to the Navratri season. The melodious tunes of rhythms, vibrant colours, and joyous expressions of the participants embodied the rich cultural heritage and collective spirit that characterise ICNU.

The organisers of the event, NATRAJ – The Dance Club and Kalanidhi- the cultural committee, were able to successfully execute the event because of the guidance and support from Dr Udai Paliwal, Director & Dean of ICNU, and Dr CS Karishma Bhutani, Cultural Coordinator, who have been instrumental in shaping the vision and providing guidance to the students for the success of the event.

Thus, through the successful organisation of RANGRAAS – The Garba Workshop, NATRAJ – The Dance Club and Kalanidhi- the cultural committee exemplified its dedication to ensuring that the workshop was seamless, engaging, and memorable for everyone present.
