The third-year students of B.COM (Hons.) of Nirma University had a visit in the GIFT (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City), India’s first International Financial Services Centre. Mr. Sandeep Shah gave a brief introduction about the GIFT city and various opportunities in the GIFT city. The GIFT city is mainly divided into three parts which are Multi Services Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Domestic finance centre/corporate office/trade centre and Associated Infrastructure, Housing and Social facilities. The students also visited the India INX (India International Exchange) which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). India Inx is claimed to be the world’s most advanced technology platform with a turn-around time of 4 microseconds which operates 22 hours a day & six days a week. These timings facilitate international investors and Non-Resident Indians to trade from anywhere across the globe at their preferred timings.
The students also visited the Solid waste management tunnel which has an Automated Waste Collection System (AWS) and the waste treatment through Plasma Technology. The GIFT has developed the vision of “DIGGING FREE CITY” by placing all the utilities in a TUNNEL across the city so that there is no need to excavate the roads in future for repair/maintenance /renovation/up gradation of any utility. the tunnel is divided into WET and DRY sections which are physically separated with each other. The wet section is carrying utilities related to water, ICT and others while dry section carries power cables and have access from the top. The wet section has been designed in such a manner that material handling or maintenance vehicles can enter into. The total length of the Tunnel within the GIFT City shall be approx. 16 Km and shall be provided with a ventilation system, rodent repellent system and fire & smoke detection system for the purpose of safety.
Lastly, the students also visited the Gift City Club which is Gujarat’s first Premier Business and Leisure Club located in (GIFT) City, a first-of-its-kind financial services hub in India.
The visit has provided the students with practical knowledge about the stock exchange and the trading happening in the international market. The students also came to know that trading in the GIFT city is in foreign currency only, no rupee denominated currency is allowed to trade in the GIFT city. The visit was has fulfilled its objective of gaining practical knowledge about the stock market. So it can be concluded that the visit was knowledgeable and joyful.
