Institute of Commerce, Nirma University Welcomes Fourth Batch of B.Com.(Hons) Students

Institute of Commerce, Nirma University (ICNU) organised the orientation cum induction programme for its fourth batch of B.Com (Honours) students on July 16, 2019. The B.Com (Honours) programme offered by the ICNU intends to prepare the students for their career in Accounting and BFSI sectors. The orientation cum induction programme was inaugurated by Dr. Pankaj Singh, Senior Vice President, Data Centre Business & Group HR, Adani Group, who graced the occasion as chief guest. Speaking on occasion, Dr. Pankaj Singh highlighted the various career prospects for B.Com graduates and opportunities in the field of accounting, finance, management, banking, research and economics. He also emphasised on the contribution and role that commerce graduates play in the economic development of the nation. CA Bishan Shah, Managing Partner at Bishan R Shah and Company and management committee member of ICAI, Ahmedabad, added that there is a growing demand for B.Com graduates who could tackle the challenges of the accounting, auditing, taxation and BFSI sector domains. He emphasized on the pressing need that the professionals should behave ethically. In his welcome address, Prof. Udai Paliwal, Dean, Institute of Commerce extended a warm welcome to the fresh batch of students who were accompanied by their parents. He reiterated the commitment of Nirma University to provide excellent educational opportunities in the form of blended learning and various extension activities. The inaugural programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Avani Shah, Academic Coordinator, ICNU.

The three-day-long orientation programme was scheduled from July 15 to 17. Under the programme, students were introduced to the system and procedures of ICNU by the faculty members. CIMA Global, Mumbai held a session on global career opportunities in Management Accounting & Finance. The students were sensitized about the equal opportunity, anti-ragging and anti-drug movement at NIRMA University, gender sensitivity, NSS and student welfare activities, and plagiarism. The students were also briefed about the role of students in various clubs and committees, sports, internship and placement activities at ICNU. Several Team building activities were conducted during the orientation programme instilling familiarity and professional connections between the students.
