On the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week, an initiative of the Central Vigilance Commission, India, the NSS unit of the Institute of Commerce, Nirma University held a discussion session on the topic “Corruption in India: Its Causes and Consequences” on November 7, 2022. The discussion was led by Asst. Prof. Ashutosh Pandey, NSS Programme Officer, ICNU, and NSS Committee members. The students and volunteers discussed the causes and consequences of corruption. Two key findings from the discussion are. 1) A student’s first chance of encountering corruption is when he/she goes through the process of getting a Driving Licence, 2) His/her second chance of encountering corruption is on the violation of a traffic rule. Suppose teenagers encounter corruption at this tender age. In that case, they might perceive corruption as a “default” for getting things done easily. Thus, we cannot ensure a corruption-free India unless we stop a teenager’s encounter with corruption. All the students and volunteers pledged to obey the nation’s rules and regulations. They also pledged to be not a part of any corrupt practice. A total of about 40 students were present in the session.
