On September 30, 2024, the NSS Unit of ICNU organized a ‘Waste to Art’ Competition in Single, and Duo categories as part of the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” initiative, celebrating cleanliness in honour of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
The event drew enthusiastic participation from students, who skillfully transformed waste materials into impressive art pieces. It began with a brief introduction outlining the competition rules and guidelines, followed by the creation of artwork. Participants used various waste and recycled items, including CDs, candy sticks, coconut shells, old newspapers, nut shells, leaves, branches, glass bottles, and more. The resulting artworks ranged from wall hangings and decorative items like vases to a city model.
In the duo category, first place was awarded to a city model, while second place went to a showpiece of three monkeys crafted from coconut shells, symbolizing peace and tolerance. In the individual category, the decorative wall hanging was nominated as a winner, and the second prize to another showpiece. Prof Dr. Udai Paliwal – Director & Dean, ICNU, distributed trophies and certificates, his presence inspiring the participants.
